The book I am going to read for my independent reading book is Little Princess: One mans promise to bring home the children of Nepal by Conor Grennan. The atmosphere of this story takes place in a small town in Nepal called Godawari, where most people are poor and do not live in sanitary places. The homes are made of mud and some brick. All the people in the houses sleep on straw mattresses and have the heat of a fire. The streets are dirt and the backyards are dirt and a few patches of grass. Overall this little place is a very close neighborhood and scarred by the occurring war.
Little Princess by Conor Grennan occurs when Conor arrives in Nepal in November 2004. This story continues through 2010. When Conor decides to go to Nepal to help children he realizes that Nepal is in the middle of a civil war. Most of Nepal is torn up from the war and government and needs help badly but the war is not over yet. This story was written recently and takes place where no one would think of visiting.
Conor Grennan, the protagonist encounters many issues. He travels to Nepal to help children where their town is torn by the war. Conor also faces the issue of being in the country and trying to find the kids parents he is no where safe. when I was researching I found that the government takes away the kids and says that they are going to be safer with them. But really they take them and people donate things to the kids but the man who takes them keeps the items donated for himself. it is very dangerous to get involved with that and Conor does.
This issue impacts many people today because of all the orphanages in Nepal. Also like I said this did not happen to long ago, only a couple years ago. I believe this impact is serious because families want their kids back and want to not be stolen from. Some of the ways people have tried to solve this issue are by doing what Conor Grennan did. He went over and volunteered with the children to help them find their families and reunite them. Others can also help this way too and many have!
Very in depth and detailed. Good job!
